In 2006, The Friends embraced a new program called Community Connections which originated in Matheny's Development Department. In partnership with a generous donor, a grant from the Hyde and Watson Foundation, and proceeds from a wine tasting soiree, the Friends were able to help fund a customized van. The purpose of the van is to get the residents of Matheny into the local communities. We also raise money to bring the community to Matheny as well. The following are examples of the activities that Matheny residents love and The Friends need help funding:

• Movie, theater, and sporting event tickets
• Field trips to museums
• Dining out
• Weekend entertainment at Matheny
• Deep sea fishing and boating
• A day at the beach
• Handicapped riding lessons
• Adaptive skiing
• Karate
• Holiday trips to Rockefeller Center
